Parenzana was a 123 km long railway line that went through the Istrian countryside, connecting 33 places in Istria, from Trst (Trieste) to Poreč. Today it passes the territories of Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.
The railway operated between 1902 and 1935 and it represented a vital connection between villages and towns that were on the route, transporting passengers, wine, olive oil, stone, coal, wood, and many other resources.
In 2006, The Parenzana revival project begun. This project restored and converted the way into a cycling trail. What had once fallen into oblivion, today is known as the most visited cycling and hiking trail in Istria.
The biking route is not very demanding and thus appropriate for beginners, families, and regular cyclists.
